VRA’s office of highly skilled public relations experts, marketers, graphic designers and technical writers/editors won’t be found in your typical high-rise office building in downtown Houston. Oh no.... VRA’s fearless leader, Vesta Rea-Gaubert, carved out her own sanctuary on an unincorporated piece of land in Harris County, lovingly known as Texotic Farms.
It is only here where our Senior Project Manager works on the latest proposal in response to a newly let solicitation as she looks out her office window at the four llamas roaming about their pens. It is here where our Project Manager’s Assistant types furiously with one hand while the other must simultaneously be petting either the Standard Poodle, Delilah, or the Yorkie, Gypsy. Heaven help her if they both want attention at the same time.
Our Office Assistant (who is allergic to cats) is in a constant battle readjusting the large Maine Coon cat that takes up residence on her desk, but only if there are documents to be laid on. Peanut, the Maine Coon, has now achieved “Chonker” status, so the readjustment is quite the effort. Our Office Manager can also be found taking her daily stroll out to the pen to feed an apple to the miniature horse, Cheyanne. He prefers his apples cut into slices. You know when she’s made it to the pen because that is when the two large macaw parrots begin screaming, which is usually in the middle of a conference call.
And we certainly cannot forget our vibrant, feisty founder, Vesta. As she fills her day with project teaming meetings and conference calls, everyone can’t help but hear Shaka in the background. The small African grey parrot that spends her days in Vesta’s office is just as rambunctious as her owner and enjoys letting herself be known. From telling CBP officers they were “smokin’ pot” to cat-calling government officials and CEO’s, almost all of Houston has experienced Shaka in one way or another. (To those who thought they were in a league of their own when it comes to Shaka’s cat-calling – we apologize for bursting your bubble....we are sure you’re quite the looker, though.)
To learn more about the crazy happenings at Texotic Farms, or discover where Vesta (who is quite the jet-setter) has ventured to, follow along here...because life is too short to not spend it laughing.
